You can do anything, but not everything ✨

Feed your focus and starve your distractions

Hey hey friend,

It’s time for another issue of The Liberty Letter 💌! As per usual, I’ve got a jam-packed newsletter for you today, so let’s get ittttt 🤪.

Issue 14: 8 min read

🙋🏽‍♀️ Dani’s Doings: My mentor REALLY pissed me off 🤬, I’m visiting 3 new countries this week, and more!

💸 Money Matters: Being single is VERY expensive 😒, Gen Z’ers are not saving for their futures, and more $$$ news.

✈️ Travel Tings: A list of the popular tourist destinations that hate tourists, the dark side of digital nomadism, a $1/night Airbnb in Thailand, among other travel stories.

🫶🏽 Community Corner: I’m giving you a discount on allllllll of my fizupszn budget trackers to celebrate my bday this week 🎉, the Liberty Leave course + community is coming soon, and some other fun stuff.

I’ve gotten a lot of feedback that y’all enjoy reading about what’s going on in my weird-ish and non-traditional life, so I’m here to give you all the tea ☕

🤬 My mentor pissed me off(…in a good way): I recently met with my mentor to talk about the blockers I’m experiencing in my business. She gave me a lot of tough love in a way that I really needed to hear. She said: 1) “You’re suffering from shiny object syndrome aka you’re getting easily distracted”, and 2) She asked me “Well…how bad do you really want it?”. friend, I cannot express to you how much this lit a fire under me lol 😅. As a high-achieving woman, I don’t ever want to have my work ethic or ambitions questioned. The moral of this story is to get a mentor to tell you what you need to hear (instead of what you want to hear)! Details on how I found my mentor in the Community Corner section of this newsletter below ⤵️.

🌴 The Liberty Leave™️ community + course is coming soon: With the above being said (lol), I’m finally launching the Liberty Leave community + course in 2025. It’ll be a space I curate for burnt-out women interested in taking a break from their jobs & regular lives to take a mini-retirement (which I call a Liberty Leave). It’ll cover everything from recognizing signs of burnout, to planning your purposeful pause, plan, and pivot, to getting back to work when you’re ready. If you’d like to get early access, sign up for the waitlist here!

✈️ Visiting 3 new countries this week: It’s my birthday this week 🎉! I love to celebrate by taking a solo trip because 1) I always feel the most empowered when I’m learning to navigate a new country alone, and 2) It gives me the time and space to reflect on my past year and plan for the year ahead. I’m heading to Budapest (Hungary 🇭🇺), Copenhagen (Denmark 🇩🇰), and Malmo (Sweden 🇸🇪). I don’t have an itinerary yet 😬 so feel free to reply to this email with any suggestions on things to to/see/eat!

🗣️ I’m taking Spanish lessons again: After a 2-ish month break (I got overwhelmed AND life just happened), I decided to start taking private Spanish lessons again. I discovered this website called Preply where you can choose from thousands of tutors to learn on your preferred schedule. I’m doing 2 private lessons per week for ~$100 CAD per month, which I think is pretty affordable! If you’re interested in trying out Preply, use my referral link here for 70% off your trial lesson.

Can you believe it’s still beach weather in Malaga, in mid October? 😍

  • Being single can actually be very expensive. Studies show that a single person is spending about $6700 more per year than someone in a relationship. (I personally think it’s way more than that). Read the report here.

  • The current money trend among the Gen Z crowd is “micro-spending”. They’re prioritizing spending money on things like concert tickets, collectibles, and fine wine rather than more “traditional” milestones like stocks, bonds, and saving for a home or retirement. Read the article here. I’m all for living in the moment, but balance is important!

  • TD Bank (yes, that one) just plead guilty to bank secrecy act and money laundering conspiracy violations, and they’ll have to pay approx. 3. BILLION. DOLLARS in a historic settlement with U.S. authorities. Read the story here.

  • friend,…in one of the wildest LinkedIn updates I’ve ever seen, Ryan Salame (a former executive at the FTX cryptocurrency company who plead guilty for his role in the scandal that left billions worth of customer’s dollars unaccounted for) was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison this week, and updated his job title to “Prison Inmate” 😅. Check out the story here.

  • Big telecommunications companies in Canada are finally getting called out by the big guys (the CRTC aka the Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission) to stop charging folks astronomical rates when roaming. Summary of what’s happening here. In the meantime, I’d recommend checking about Airalo. They offer eSIMs that allow you to use your phone for significantly less expensive when travelling abroad. Use my referral link here + code DANICA4990 for a little discount off your first purchase!

  • This article highlights the top tourist destinations around the world that actually despise tourists + lists the reasons why. I was not surprised to see Barcelona on there! 😬

  • How bad/uncomfortable/and dirty would you allow your accommodation to be so you could save money while travelling? I personally do not mess with dirty places at all, but this traveller recently went viral for landing a $1/night accommodation on Airbnb in Thailand that looks truly awful.

  • Being a digital nomad (travelling often and working remotely) is not all butterflies and rainbows, despite what many seem to think. This article highlights some of the main challenges nomads face, such as depression and alienation.

    • Side note: I recently realized that I haven’t done a great job at building community while in Malaga, so I made a Facebook community last week for Black Women here and we’ve already got 30+ members and planned out first meetup! If you’re a Black woman thinking about moving to/visiting Malaga, feel free to join the Facebook group here. If you’re not a Black woman, there’s lots of other broader groups on Facebook for those considering moving to Malaga, like Expats in Malaga. In general, Facebook groups are the best place to find community while travelling abroad.

  • Some resorts in Spain are implementing drink limits at resorts for British tourists who have an unfortunate reputation for getting waaaaay too drunk and disorderly while on their holidays. It’s got quite the backlash. Read about it here.

  • Have you heard about the adorable little hippo, called Moo Deng, that the internet has been going wild over? People are travelling from all over the world to Thailand to go see this little guy. Read about it here.

  • I’m launching the Liberty Leave course and community in 2025 🎉! If you’re a woman interested in recovering from burnout, taking time away from your job, and learning how to plan your perfect mini-retirement you’ll want in on this! Join the waitlist here to get an exclusive offer at launch.

  • 🎈🥳 It’s my birthday this week (Oct 18)! To celebrate, I’m offering 18% off ALL BUDGET TRACKERS on fixupszn using the code 18OFF. Grab yours today by clicking here! Limited time offer.

  • Earlier in the newsletter, I mentioned I’m working with a mentor that’s been helping me work through some blockers in my business. If you’re a Canadian woman interested in a mentor, I’d highly recommend checking out The Forum! It’s $300 CAD for 12 months. I’ve gotten a ton of value out of the program so far.

  • I get so many emails & DMs asking me about products I recommend and my affiliate links! A friendly reminder that I’ve conveniently listed all on my website, which you can find here. This includes everything from the bank accounts I recommend to my go-to products for travel.

These may include affiliate links where I earn a small commission (and you pay nothing!), which helps me to continue to grow and produce content like this newsletter. Thanks for your support!

Thank you for reading another Liberty Letter, friend! Not so fun fact: I cried this morning because I actually wrote most of this newsletter yesterday… but when I checked this morning, it disappeared. But we move, right? 🥲

I love reading your email replies, so if something resonated with you, please feel free to let me know (and also, to confirm my work isn’t being thrown into an abyss lol).

Con amor (with love), Dani ❤️
